I'm very far from an expert, but I've been a startup leader (long ago) and more recently have been spending time meeting people to learn what's happening in the tech startup space, especially medical devices.

For people who have stuff to do aside from connecting for some reason - me, or sales people - it's like everything else: you have to prioritize. Do I read this LinkedIn article, do I go to this conference, do I spend time connecting with this person. And be somewhat mindful of the costs and benefits of where you're investing your time.

For me, without the burden of a job, it's all benefit.
